Best Organic Baby Lotions

Like many other baby products, baby lotion also can contain toxic chemicals. (for toxic ingredient list in baby lotion, read my previous posting, ‘Safe Baby Lotion Guide – What Toxic Ingredients To Avoid In Baby Lotions.) Some of these bad ingredients are very harmful to baby’s health. Baby is more sensitive to these ingredients since their skin is thinner and more vulnerable than adults’. Also these bad ingredients can end up in baby’s bloodstream through the skin. Therefore, it is important to make sure all ingredients in the baby lotion are safe. Just because the lotion says it is an organic baby lotion, it doesn’t mean it only has safe ingredients. There are also other chemicals such as preservatives, penetration enhancers or fragrances in the lotion. Therefore, read the ingredients and decide if the lotion is safe for your baby.
I have listed the best organic baby lotions below and they do not contain any of the harmful chemicals. They use organic ingredients such as organic shea butter or organic avocado oil. (Except for the last one, Baby Mantra baby lotion uses natural ingredients.) Also other chemicals that are used as preservatives, penetration enhancer or fragrances in these lotions are safe. EWG’s Skin Deep is a reputable, reliable organization that has database of potential hazard score of products. Potential hazards are scored from 1 to 10, hazard score 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. They rate each ingredient in the product and also give an overall score to the product. All of the organic baby lotions below have an overall score of 1 and also all of their ingredients have score of 1 which is the best rating. (Except for the last one, Baby Mantra baby lotion has one ingredient that received a score of 3.) All of these organic lotions have the best quality, however, my favorites are Earth Mama Angel Baby Lotion and BareBaby Organics Organic Baby Lotion. It has no harmful sulfates, parabens, phthalates, dyes, artificial fragrances or other harmful additives. Potassium solvate is used as a preservative in this lotion. (highlighted above) Potassium sorbate scores 3 on EWG’s Skin Deep. It is one of the safer preservative used in baby lotions. This chemical may cause allergies or organ system toxicity (non-reproductive). However, there are limited evidence to prove potassium sorbate causes organ system toxicity.
